Dance Leotards
Dance leotards are a close fitting one piece garment worn mostly by ballerinas, but can be worn by dancers for other dance styles as well. The most common color and style for ballerinas is a black short sleeved or sleeveless leotard, but they come in many different colors and several other styles. Usually leotards are made of spandex or Lycra.
When picking out dance leotards, keep in mind that most are not worn with any type of undergarment, so it is important that the leotard is supportive. Many judges will cut points if a underwear line is seen, however if you are adamant about wearing undergarments, a special type of underwear that is high cut, or a thong will generally go undetected. Seamless sports bras are generally safe as well.
Other things to keep in mind when picking out dance leotards include: the color of leotard needed for the performance or engagement, if the size of the leotard fits your particular body shape, if the elasticity of the leotard is right for your body shape and if the style of the leotard is right for you. Be sure to try on several sizes and styles before making a final decision.
