Dance Sneakers

Dance sneakers are a relatively new type of dance shoe that has a split sole (a sole at the ball of the foot and a separate sole at the heel), offering more flexibility. It also has a turning spot on the ball of the foot, allowing dancers to turn more easily. More and more dance styles are adopting this new style of dance shoe for both practicing and performances.

When purchasing dance sneakers make sure you get the right fit. They should be tight, but not painfully tight. Over time, the shoes will mold to your foot and stretch, so if they aren’t tight at first they may end up falling off or slipping around after you’ve danced in them a while. Also make sure to try on several different brands, as different brands have different lasts, and one my fit your particular foot type better than another.

Although dance sneakers are a bit pricey – they typically run $60 to $100 - they will last you a good while and you can wear them on and off the dance floor. One disadvantage to this type of sneaker is, because of the split sole, they tend to offer little to no arch support. Most dancers, however, find dance sneakers to be both comfortable and fully functional.
