Dancewear
Dancewear plays a very important role in all aspects of dancing, from warming up to rehearsals to the actual performance. The beautiful movements of dancers rely on high performance fabrics to keep up with their demanding body movements and schedules. Choosing the right fabrics is very important to avoid injury of the dancers and to enhance the quality of the performance.
There are many various styles of dance, including jazz, hip hop, ballroom, ballet, belly, swing, tap and many more. Each style comes with a different style of dancewear that is designed specifically for that style of dance. Jazz dancers wear apparel that allows flexibility and mobility. Hip hop dancers often dress in baggy cloths and bright colors to match the feel of their music as well as allow a wide variety of movement.
Nearly every dancer requires that his/her clothing is flexible, as most techniques in dance require a high degree of stretching and fast movement. Most clothes are designed to fit tight to best show off the dancer’s body movement. Because of this, most of the basic dancewear is made from Lycra or spandex.
Comfort is another very important aspect in choosing proper dancewear. Dancing is much more difficult and tiring if the apparel the dancer is wearing is heavy and gets in the way. The materials used must be lightweight and breathable. Along with Lycra and spandex, materials like chiffon, nylon and lightweight cotton keep the dancers cool, and are durable as well.
